About this race
The Trail Hivernale des Coursières is the winter version of the Trail des Coursières, held in Saint-Martin-en-Haut in the Rhône, within the Monts du Lyonnais, west of Lyon. The winter event offers a straightforward program: a long trail of approximately 32-33 km with around 1,300 m of elevation gain, and a shorter 15-16 km option with about 500 m of elevation gain. This is a genuine off-road hill race, not a flat road race, with sufficient elevation to make the longer course a demanding winter challenge.
Runners begin at Place de l'Eglise and conclude at the Salle des sports. The precise routes are not disclosed beforehand as organizers utilize private paths and must safeguard access permissions; therefore, course maps are distributed only at the venue on race day. Registration is limited to 800 participants for the longer race and 900 for the shorter one. The races grant ITRA points and are part of the UTMB World Series Qualifiers. The main Trail des Coursières in May includes 100 km, 50 km, 25 km, and 11 km distances, with its ultra race also qualifying for the Western States 100. The event is managed by Association Trail Organisation Solidarité.
