About this race
Trail Nocturne du Haut Bugey is a mid-December night trail race on the Plateau d'Hauteville in Ain, in France's Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Runners choose between two loop courses: a 7 km trail with about 220 metres of climbing and descent, or a 14 km trail with about 500 metres up and 500 metres down. The race leans into its winter timing, with a nocturnal, snowy, Christmas-season theme.
The 14 km route is the more popular option, giving runners a short but fairly punchy night outing rather than an all-day mountain race. The 7 km course offers the same basic feel in a lighter version, with enough elevation to feel like trail running without demanding the longer distance. Its identity comes from running after dark on the Haut Bugey plateau in December, when the cold, snow theme, and Christmas atmosphere are part of the appeal.
