The Trail Retournacois begins on the banks of the Loire River in Retournac, a town in Haute-Loire, south-central France. Organized by Aventure Retournac, the event offers race options from a short 7.2 km route to a 24 km mountain challenge. The primary distances are 10 km, 15 km, and 24 km, allowing runners to select a brisk hilly run or a more demanding day across the volcanic landscape surrounding the town. The courses ascend from the Loire towards the nearby volcanic peaks, crossing diverse trails and providing clear views of the regional topography. The 10 km race, La Bosse à Bloc, involves a 290-meter climb. The 15 km Casse Patte has a 700-meter climb, and the 24 km VO2 Suc climbs 1,100 meters. The VO2 Suc race is also listed with a UTMB Index in the 20K category, beneficial for runners developing a trail running profile. This event maintains a local scale; the 24 km race had 162 finishers. Near Retournac, visitors can explore Château de Rochebaron, a historic castle ruin atop a hill offering expansive views of the region.
