About this race

The Trail Urbain Angoumoisin is an urban trail race held in Angoulême, located in France’s Charente department within Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its format focuses on running through the city, though the longer distances involve significant elevation gain. Participants can select from 7 km, 13 km, 21 km, 43 km, or the extensive La Grande Boucle, approximately 82 km. A walking option is also available. The shorter races are named La petite Bulle (7 km), Les 13 km du Centre, and Les 21 km des Remparts. The 43 km is considered a long trail, and La Grande Boucle is classified as an ultra-trail. The course is designed to guide runners through various parts of Angoulême, a city renowned for its connection to comic strips and often referred to as the world capital of bande dessinée. The 7 km route features around 90 meters of elevation gain, the 13 km approximately 200 meters, the 21 km about 350 meters, and the 43 km roughly 750 meters. La Grande Boucle represents the most demanding part of the event, offering between 1,200 and 1,440 meters of climbing, depending on the specific version, and it is also a UTMB Index race. The field sizes for this longest race can be modest; one edition recorded just 34 finishers, suggesting it functions more as a challenging local ultra than a large-scale road race.
