Ultra Trail des Montagnes du Jura is a mountain trail running event based around Valserhône in Ain, in the Jura Mountains of eastern France. It takes place in early October and offers a range of distances, from a 10 km trail to a 300 km relay, with solo and team options. The 175 km race is near the top of that range, providing a long ultra format without being the longest event on the schedule.
The event draws a large field, with over 10,000 adult and child runners at a recent edition and about 1,000 volunteers supporting the weekend. The race menu also includes 20 km, 40 km, 75 km, 105 km, a 175 km relay, and the 300 km relay, catering to beginners, experienced trail runners, and relay teams. Weather can be a serious part of the challenge: recent conditions included rain, wind, cold, hail, and snow over the race weekend.
