About this race
The Ultra-Trail du Haut-Giffre 9 km is the shortest adult race in a mountain trail-running weekend held in Samoëns, French Alps. The event takes place over a June weekend, with registration opening in December. The program includes races from 9 km up to over 100 km, children’s races, hiking, and UTMB Index races. The 9 km is part of a larger alpine festival, not a standalone short race.
The Haut-Giffre setting gives the short race a mountain feel. Routes pass through alpine pastures, near mountain lakes, and toward high passes where snow may still be present. The longer courses are steep and technical, with exposed trails, schist, rock, snowy sections, and significant climbing. This mountain culture influences the entire weekend. Organizers emphasize humility, mutual support, personal challenge, and respect for the race locations.
