The Vertical Race de la Montagne de Beauregard is a ski-mountaineering climb at sunset on the slopes above Molines-en-Queyras, in the Queyras area of the French Alps. It is a timed uphill race: racers skin up the mountain, then descend after dark. The main course covers 800 metres vertically, while a 400-metre “petit dénivelé” course offers a shorter option for newcomers and more casual participants. The event is open to all, with the longer race part of the Trophée des Alpes du Sud.
The logistics are practical and suited for the mountain environment. Bibs are collected at the ESF in Molines. The 800-metre course has online registration and a fee, and the 400-metre climb can be entered at the ESF without a medical certificate. Warm drinks and music are available at the start area. Organizers remind participants to bring a headlamp for the descent. Racers can leave warm clothing at the start to be transported to the summit, highlighting the race's nature: the climb is the challenge, but the cold descent is also a factor of the night.
