Wtf Backyard - Forcalquier is a backyard-style endurance race organized by Wild Trail Forcalquier in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence area of southern France. Runners start a 6.7 km loop every hour, and the format is simple: finish the loop inside the hour, rest with whatever time is left, then line up again for the next start. The Forcalquier version sets a capped format of twelve hours and twelve starts, so the toughest runners can reach about 80 km with roughly 3,000 meters of climbing.
The race uses the American backyard format, which began with the idea of running repeated loops from a garden until only one runner could continue. In Forcalquier, anyone who misses the hourly cutoff is out, but the organizers also built the event so people do not have to chase the full distance. Solo entries and two-person relay bibs are available, and runners can stop after a few loops if that is the right challenge for them. It is also Wild Trail Forcalquier’s first race as an organizing club, after members had been discussing the idea and decided they had enough people and energy to make it happen.
