The Lyon running event offers participants three race distances within the same city program: a 10 km, a half marathon, and the full Marathon de Lyon. The marathon itself is a 42.195 km road race held in Lyon’s 1st arrondissement, within the Rhône department, scheduled for October. This event is classified as a running race, distinct from trail or multisport competitions. Its appeal is direct: a major city road marathon accompanied by shorter race options available on the same series.

Saturday begins early with additional bib collection before the 42 km Tour de La Sambuy starts, followed by the 26 km Trail de l’Eau Froide, the 15 km Trail des Hameaux, and the 10 km walk. Awards are presented throughout the day, with shorter-distance runners honored late in the morning and the 42 km finishers receiving their ceremony in the afternoon.

Trail Faverges-Seythenex
SAT OCT 10
The Trail Faverges-Seythenex is an October trail-running series held in Faverges, Haute-Savoie, situated near the sources of Lake Annecy in eastern France. The races are located within the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, featuring mountain terrain, paths along the lake, and forested sections near the south end of Lake Annecy. Participants can select from multiple race formats: 15 km, 26 km, and the 42 km Tour de la Sambuy, alongside a 12 km walk, a 42 km relay, and children's races of 600 m and 2 km. The 42 km race presents a challenging mountain course with 3,350 m of elevation gain. The 26 km Trail de l'Eau Froide includes 1,600 m of climbing, and the 15 km Trail des Hameaux offers a shorter distance with 550 m of ascent. The event attracts a diverse group of participants, including children, walkers, relay teams, and seasoned trail runners, with over 1,500 finishers recorded in a recent running. It also holds UTMB and ITRA labels, providing recognized results for competitive runners and serving as a demanding autumn race in the Bauges for local participants.
Marathon de Lausanne
SAT OCT 24
The Marathon de Lausanne takes runners along the quays of Lausanne, in Switzerland’s Vaud canton, next to the lake. This October road race features a full marathon of 42.195 km, alongside half marathon and 10 km distances, catering to both dedicated marathoners and those seeking a shorter run. The course follows the lakefront quays and Lausanne’s streets, with the rhythm of footsteps along the water providing a distinct atmosphere. The event attracts over 10,000 participants annually, with expected fields exceeding 14,000, and holds full membership in AIMS. A virtual edition was also held recently when the in-person event was canceled.
Semi Marathon du Grand Fond Bressan
SAT FEB 6
The Semi Marathon du Grand Fond Bressan is a road race held in Saint-Just, located in France’s Ain department near Bourg-en-Bresse. The primary event covers the standard 21.097 km half-marathon distance. Typically scheduled for September, the event offers runners three asphalt-course choices: the half marathon, a 10 km race, and a 5 km race designed for a broader participant base. The courses traverse the Bresse countryside, passing through several neighboring communes. Local backing comes from Ceyzériat, Revonnas, Journans, Tossiat, Montagnat, and Saint-Just. The 10 km race holds the French Athletics Federation’s Bronze road label, allowing participants to qualify for the French championships. All three races contribute to the Grand Bourg Agglomération challenge. The event caters to various skill levels: beginners can opt for the 5 km, consistent road runners have the 10 km, and more seasoned runners can compete in the half marathon.
Trace des Maquisards de l'Ain
SAT FEB 6
Trace des Maquisards de l'Ain is a night trail race held in early February, beginning in the Ain department near Oyonnax and crossing the Bugey and Haut-Jura mountain landscapes. Participants can choose from several distances: approximately 100 km, 42 km, 28 km, and 10 km, in addition to a nocturnal relay. The 100 km course is the main attraction, featuring around 4,100 meters of elevation gain, and the 42 km and 28 km routes also provide substantial climbing, offering a genuine mountain trail running challenge. The event honors the memory of the maquisards, French Resistance fighters active during World War II against the Nazi occupation. This historical connection lends the race a distinct character beyond a typical winter trail run; participants follow a commemorative route through forests and mountain paths. The race appeals to trail runners who enjoy cold-weather challenges, night running, relay options, and UTMB Index qualifying events. The most demanding courses are suitable for experienced mountain runners, while the shorter distances are accessible to a broader range of participants.
La trace des maquisards
SUN FEB 7
La Trace des Maquisards is a February night trail race held in Oyonnax, located in the Ain department of France’s Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The primary challenge is the extended mountain effort: the ultra course covers approximately 99 to 100 km with over 4,000 meters of elevation gain. Shorter options are available, with distances around 42 km, 30 km, 28 km, 15 km, 10 km, or 7 km. The race incorporates trails, altitude, darkness, and local history, with the 7 km route also taking place at night. Individual runners can select a distance suited to their abilities, while teams can participate in the 100 km relay, where pacing, exchanges, and collective effort are as significant as individual speed.

This event has been a fixture on the local calendar for many years, with over forty editions of the half marathon having taken place. The program has also featured a Semi-Handisport race. L'Entente organizes the event, and the town offers visitors a notable attraction after the race: the Royal Monastery of Brou, a historic Gothic monument in the center of Bourg-en-Bresse.

About Marathon races in Annecy

Annecy Training Notes

Annecy hosts 31 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals split easy miles between Lake Annecy, Charles Bosson Park, the Jardins de l’Europe, and the hillier trails toward Semnoz, Mont Veyrier, La Tournette, and Parmelan. The city centre gives you flat Z2, quick intervals, and easy café roll-ins after a shakeout. Social Run Club Annecy meets outside Colombus Cafe on Sundays at 10:15 AM, usually for 5 km at 5:55-6:20 per km. Circle Run Club meets Mondays at 6:30 PM at Canaille, Nouvelles Galeries. Marathon du lac d’Annecy, Corrida d’Annecy, Maxi Race d’Annecy, and Trail d’Annecy-Les Glaisins are the anchor races.

Locals ride the lake when they want base miles and ride the cols when they want the real work. Matchy Brigade runs guided rides on Wednesday evenings for 40 km to 50 km and Saturday mornings for 70 km to 90 km. The Saturday ride takes 5 hours when you keep it steady. Col de Leschaux, Col de la Forclaz, Col de Colombiere, Semnoz, and Col de l’Arpettaz are where the climbing starts. Ultra Race Les Géants, with 300 km, 500 km, and 1000 km options, is the big road anchor.

September is the clean pick, because the lake can still feel like summer while the top of a big col feels cooler. Summer stays moderate on average, but early September by the lake can push over 30 degrees, so locals start early, hit the almost empty beaches, and keep Z2 honest. Winter changes the rhythm for both sports, with single-digit daytime temperatures, cold rain, night frosts, and snow that is not uncommon. Semnoz sits 20 minutes from Annecy, Les Glières sits 45 minutes away, and La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand sit 40 minutes away when skiing takes over.
