About this race
The Aldbury 5 begins at 11:00 AM from the Recreation Ground in Aldbury, a Hertfordshire village situated in the Bulbourne valley of the Chiltern Hills. This 5.3-mile trail race follows well-marked off-road paths around Ashridge Woods, offering varied terrain distinct from a flat road race. The event has been held annually since 1992.
The course is located near Tring and Berkhamsted, close to the Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire borders. The Ashridge Estate and Bridgewater Monument are uphill from the valley. Aldbury village, a conservation area, features a village green, pond, old stocks, a whipping-post, and the church of Saint John the Baptist. The local landscape holds older historical elements, with Aldbury Nowers containing ancient Ridgeway tracks and two sections of Grim's Ditch, an Iron Age earthwork.
