About this race
From the ruins of Abergavenny Castle, this is “The Race Across Bannau Brycheiniog” in the bluntest sense: a hard mountain ultra on the official Beacons Way through the Brecon Beacons National Park. Beacons Way Ultra 100 is for experienced runners who are happy being responsible for their own line, with map-and-compass navigation mandatory and the Black Mountains waiting early, including the Skirrid and the Holy Mountain before Llanthony Abbey.
The route keeps asking questions: central Beacons, Pen-y-Fan, then the Carmarthen Fans, all part of a “beautiful, wild and hidden range of mountains.” Expect rough mountain terrain, big climbs, exposed stretches, checkpoints, live tracking, and the kind of “breathtaking views and support” that still does not make the work any smaller. The finish is tied to buckle tiers, and the whole thing has the feel of a proper test: “Step into the unknown and the wilds,” then keep moving.
