About this race
The Forces March recreates a World War Two training march from Ilfracombe in North Devon to Bulford in Wiltshire. The modern event is a five-day, 125-mile race or march across Devon, Somerset, and Wiltshire, built around the idea of covering serious distance day after day rather than chasing a single fast finish.
The original route was 135 miles long and was marched by soldiers who later helped lead the D-Day liberation, including the assault on Pegasus Bridge. That history gives the event its character: participants are following a wartime training line across the West Country, with the physical challenge tied directly to the soldiers who used the march as preparation for war.
