About this race
Fortitude Pippingford is a 10-hour loop challenge held at Pippingford Park, near Uckfield in Sussex. Runners select 3-mile, 4-mile, or 5-mile laps rather than a single fixed distance. The format is straightforwardly "You vs You": up to 10 laps are possible, with one hour allocated for each lap. A runner must return to the race village within the hour to start the next lap. While listed as an October ultra, the final distance is determined by how long a runner maintains the hourly cutoff and which loop they select.
The park is a private working estate that also functions as an MOD training range, granting access to areas not typically available to runners. Each lap can involve up to 700 feet of climbing. The Red and Black loops primarily consist of hard-packed trail, whereas the shorter Blue loop features more off-road terrain. Runners have the option to switch to a shorter loop if the day becomes more demanding. However, the finisher classification is determined by the shortest loop completed, not the total distance covered. All finishers are awarded an event medal and a coloured T-shirt corresponding to their result.
