About this race
The Glen Lyon Ultra is a 31-mile foot race starting from Pubil in Glen Lyon, situated in the Perthshire hills. This is a small-field ultra with 180 available places, contested on rough country terrain rather than paved roads. Participants must carry mandatory equipment, including a basic first aid kit. The race is set up with a practical, remote approach: camping is offered at Glen Lyon Dam the night prior, with toilet facilities available. The race briefing is distributed three weeks in advance.
The course commences with a circuit around Loch Lyon, featuring approximately six river crossings that will likely result in wet feet. Following this loop, runners will pass the start/finish area to retrieve their single drop bag at the halfway point. They then ascend a hill into Glen Lochay, crossing varied terrain before climbing back over the hill and descending to the finish line in Glen Lyon. Aid stations are located at miles 8, 15, 20, and 27, requiring participants to possess both planning skills and hill-running strength.
