About this race
The Hadrian's Wall Half Marathon begins at Housesteads Roman Fort near Hexham and concludes at Tyne Green Country Park. This trail half marathon covers approximately 13.5 miles. A separate guided walking challenge, spanning about 13.1 miles, takes place on a different day. The event is chip timed, starts in the morning, and is currently in its sixth year.
The course traces the Hadrian's Wall area, allowing participants to spend much of their time alongside Roman history, away from closed city streets. The organiser characterizes the race as challenging, though the final 5 miles are flat, offering a different sensation compared to the more demanding trail sections. Participants receive a medal, a long-sleeve technical T-shirt, a snack, and a choice of beer or a soft drink. The walking event supports the Heel & Toe Children's Charity.
