About this race
From Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, this is a single-stage ultra with a hard edge: The Ring Of Steele Ultramarathon. It heads out onto the Cleveland Way, reaches Helmsley, then commits to the moors on the Tabular Hills Route toward Scalby before turning onto the clifftops and the long way back.
The character is plain enough: “over 7000 metres of ascent,” checkpoints like White Horse Carpark, Fadmoor, and Stape, and a finish back at Helmsley after you “pick up the Hardmoors 110 route.” This is one for ultra runners who already understand that the moors can be beautiful and blunt in the same hour.
