Highlander Last One Standing
Saturday, July 18, 2026 · Perthshire, United Kingdom
About this race
Highlander Last One Standing is a backyard ultra held at Murthly Castle Estate in Perthshire, taking place over a July weekend. All participants begin the same 4.167-mile loop on the hour. Each runner has one hour to complete the loop, recover, refuel, and be ready for the next start. Failing to meet the cutoff or make the subsequent start concludes the race. This format continues until only one runner remains, who must then complete one final solo loop within the hour to claim victory.
The course is designed to be completed within the time limit, meaning the primary challenge is pacing, nutrition, rest, and consistent decision-making over many hours, rather than outright speed. Participants may establish a gazebo, shelter, or personal aid station in the start/finish area, transforming the race hub into a combination of a camp and a pit lane. All runners, excluding the winner, are awarded a DNF medal. Anyone still running after 24 hours receives a 100-mile medal. The Highlander Last One Standing Scottish Championship is also designated as a Silver Ticket event, adding significance for backyard ultra specialists.
