About this race
Rothay Park sets the tone: this is not a polished road start with hills in the background, but a multi-distance trail running event heading straight into the Lake District’s harder terrain. Lakeland Trails Ultra directs ultra runners onto “mountain terrain with considerable ascent,” using the finest trails the Lake District has to offer and some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the region.
The routes are fully waymarked and marshalled, with feed and water stations to supplement what you carry, but the kit checks and strict safety cut-offs indicate the nature of the day. Expect private-land trail sections, climbs that require effort, “spectacular views guaranteed,” and an event village at the start and finish with commentary, food, music, stalls, and tired runners comparing how much the course took out of them.
