About this race
The Leith Hill Half Marathon is a cross-country half marathon starting in Dorking, ascending to Leith Hill, and returning. Its defining characteristic is the climb: Leith Hill stands as the highest point in south-eastern England, making this course distinct from a flat, easily paced road half marathon. Prior to the main race, participants can observe the UK Wife Carrying Race, lending the morning a unique atmosphere compared to a typical club event.
The course features aid stations at 2, 5, 8, and 11 miles, staffed by marshals noted for their friendliness and support. Awards maintain a local focus: the male and female victors receive Denbies sparkling wine, with second and third place finishers awarded Denbies wine. All finishers are presented with a personalised race number, a reusable medal designed to function as a coaster, a bottle of local beer, and a full English breakfast, including a vegetarian choice. Proceeds benefit charity, and participants unable to compete may transfer their entry to another runner.
