About this race
Race Across Wales begins at noon on a Friday and continues through the weekend, offering a Welsh ultra for solo participants and three-person relay teams. Crews are advised, and the regulations maintain a personal challenge: no pacers or muling, requiring runners to carry their own mandatory equipment. The schedule accommodates teams of hikers, not just runners aiming for an ultra finish.
The route is provided as a GPX file, with opportunities for recce runs and athlete Zoom meetings before race weekend. Support points offer hot food, including vegetarian and vegan choices, hot and cold beverages, indoor rest areas with sleeping facilities, and additional toilets along the route. Relay teams travel between sections in their own vehicles, and the subsequent team member must reach their section start before the team is timed out. Support crews are prohibited from pacing but may accompany participants on foot for up to a mile for encouragement, conversation, or singing. Finishers receive a traditional Welsh meal, and the Beautifully Brutal team contributes a decade of Trail & Ultra Events experience to the race.
