About this race

On the privately owned Flete Estate at Mothecombe, Race the Tide offers a genuine trail running experience rather than a slick event. Now in its 9th year, it connects private footpaths, bridleways, fields, woodland, the South West Coast Path, and estuarine trails into a varied course with ample mud, salt air, and climbing to challenge intermediate runners. The longer route goes towards Bigbury-on-Sea, crosses the causeway to Burgh Island, ascends to its summit, then returns to the coast before the main challenge: racing the tide. Expect a course with significant hills, repeated descents to the shoreline, the estuary crossing at Wonwell beach, and a finish overlooking the Mothecombe shoreline; the Watery Woodland Trail stays within Flete’s woods and estuary edges but also includes the tide race near the end.
