About this race
Each runner at the Shugborough Relays completes two miles before passing to the next member of a four-person team. This is an evening 4 x 2 mile relay held at Staffordshire County Showground, starting at 7:30pm. Teams can enter as clubs, groups of friends, workplaces, families, shops, or other sports associations.
The route incorporates tarmac drives, grass, firm woodland paths, and footpaths. It is a short course, but varied beyond a simple flat road race. The event limits entries to 400 teams and provides 12 team categories. All finishers receive medals, category winners get prizes, and there is even an award for the Best Team Name. The Shugborough name relates to the nearby estate and its railway tunnel, a 777-yard brick-lined passage constructed beneath the grounds to conceal the railway from Shugborough Hall.
