Swithland 6

Saturday, June 6, 2026 · Mountsorrel, United Kingdom

About this race

The Swithland 6 is a six-mile road race held at Halstead Road Playing Fields in Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, typically in early June. It is a single-lap course on quiet country roads surrounding Swithland Reservoir. The appeal is simple: a compact local road race, distinct from large city events. As part of the Leicester Road Running League, club runners form a significant portion of the participants. The route crosses a section of Charnwood Forest, with local history nearby. Swithland Wood is ancient woodland, documented since at least the early 1500s. The area also has historical slate-quarrying connections; Swithland Slate was used for local roofing from Roman times. Adjacent Swithland Wood and The Brand are designated a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Brand has yielded Cambrian trace fossils, meaning the race passes through a landscape with historical depth beyond its roads and reservoir scenery.
