About this race
The Tentsmuir Forest 8-hour Challenge is a timed trail race held in Tentsmuir Forest. Runners have eight hours to complete as many 4.366-mile loops as possible. Participants can set their own goals: three laps equal a half marathon, six laps equal a marathon, and seven or more laps qualify as an ultra. The race begins in the morning following registration and a briefing, continuing until early evening or when runners can no longer finish another lap.
The course follows forest trails and is very flat, with only 20 ft of elevation gain per lap. Runners use an electronic wristband to record each lap at the Basecamp timing monitor upon starting and finishing a loop. Anyone wishing to complete an additional circuit must start it before the eight-hour mark, with the final lap needing to be finished within nine hours. Awards are presented shortly after the last runner concludes.
