From there, the objective is straightforward to grasp but challenging to complete: return to the event centre on foot without any navigation aids. Distances offered are 6, 10, and 15 miles, measured as straight-line drops, not the actual distance covered. The actual route may be considerably longer as each runner selects their own path through Norfolk's lanes, paths, streets, and open terrain. This event is a blend of running and navigation, featuring no course markings or marshals, and ample opportunity for errors. The allure lies in the unpredictability: all participants begin disoriented, and victory goes to the individual who best balances physical ability, decision-making, and courage.
