About this race
The One to the Castle is a trail half marathon held in Windsor, Berkshire, approximately 25 miles west of central London. The race title is literal, as it is situated close to Windsor Castle. This running event is centered around a historic royal town and one of England’s most renowned castle settings.
The course runs near Windsor Castle, a royal residence that has been associated with the English and later British monarchy for nearly a thousand years. The original castle was constructed by William the Conqueror following the Norman invasion, and it has been in continuous use by monarchs since the reign of Henry I, making it the longest-occupied palace in Europe. Within its grounds are St George’s Chapel and state apartments, reflecting significant periods of English architecture. Runners pass through a location steeped in history, far exceeding that of a typical suburban half marathon route.
