The Peak District Challenge

Hathersage anchors The Peak District Challenge, a "walking or running event, for individuals or teams" with a serious hill-day feel. It appeals to the Buxton Opera House mountain-film crowd: people who hear "summer of adventure" and think about a long night out, wet socks, and keeping moving. The course is unmarked if you self-navigate, with GPX files provided and safety teams at checkpoints. Solo and duo competitors must demonstrate they have completed a "comparably-challenging run/walk." Copper, Bronze, and part of Silver can be completed in led groups where "Mountain Leaders will lead groups" and "No Navigation skills required." The clearest quirk is the support rule: no pacers or extra personal crews, and "you should only accept support that is available to every other entrant."
