About this race
Portpatrick harbour provides a start at the edge of the map, with the Scottish flag behind and the Southern Upland Way ahead. Back for its 9th year, Ultra Great Britain is a Coast to Coast Ultra-Marathon for runners familiar with long nights, rough terrain, and self-management. The route is described as the “Race Across Scotland 215 mile,” but the practical reality is: you are “taking on the full length of Scotland's Great Trail.”
From the coast, the course traverses mountains, valleys, and forests of the Southern Uplands, onto trails with historical significance. The standard high route features Gateshaw Rig and Cat s Shoulder. Beattock Village Hall is the point where a low-level severe-weather option might be announced. An international field of experienced ultra runners participates, with live tracking of the effort. The buckle system establishes a hierarchy at the finish line: rare Gold, Silver, then Bronze for other finishers.
