The Way Of The Dead Dartmoor Traverse is a 50K point-to-point ultra run across Dartmoor in Devon. It begins at Trenchford Reservoir at 8:00 AM and concludes in Tavistock. This is a self-navigated east-to-west crossing, meaning participants must read the route across valleys, tors, trails, tracks, wooded sections, and open moorland, rather than simply following tape.
The course crosses Lustleigh Cleave, Bowerman’s Nose, Hameldown Ridge, Grimspound, and Postbridge. The latter half enters more remote and less marked territory. GPS tracking, marshalled checkpoints, and feed stations are available, but the race is best suited for those with route-finding skills and hill-running experience. Runners can participate solo or in pairs, with a 10-hour cut-off and a consistent climb across Dartmoor’s central and western moors.
