About this race
The Wilmslow Spring Triathlon begins with a pool swim at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Station Road, typically held in April. The standard Sprint distance involves a 400 m swim, 24.2 km bike ride, and 6.3 km run. The Double Sprint doubles these distances to 800 m, 48.4 km, and 12.6 km. For those preferring shorter formats or specific disciplines, options include Aqua Bike (swim and bike), Aquathlon (swim and run), and relay entries for teams of one or two. The event caters to first-time and novice triathletes, while the Double Sprint offers a longer challenge for more experienced racers.
The swim takes place indoors, requiring 16 lengths for the Sprint or 32 for the Double Sprint; wetsuits are not necessary. Following the swim, the bike course exits the suburban surroundings of the leisure centre and heads onto open roads near Wilmslow and adjacent towns. The terrain is rolling with some climbs, differing from a flat time-trial course. The run course features mixed terrain, avoiding extreme gradients, and standard trainers are generally suitable. Race-day procedures are designed for ease: participants receive numbers, bike and helmet stickers, and a timing chip at registration. The chip is worn on the left ankle, and participants are advised to arrive well in advance of their start time.
