The Bologna Marathon in Trail begins and ends at Villaggio della Salute Più in Monterenzio, located south-east of Bologna between the Idice and Sillaro valleys. This is a trail-running event held in the Bolognese Apennines, featuring mountain routes instead of a standard road-marathon course. Recent distances offered include a 43 km Ultra with 1,600 m of elevation gain and a 30 km race with 1,100 m of elevation gain. The series also lists an 80 km Ultra Trail option, also based in Monterenzio.
The event is relatively new, with its fifth edition attracting participants from throughout Italy and 16 other nations. The routes were entirely redesigned for that edition, meaning the race does not simply repeat the same circuit annually. Results indicate a competitive field at the front: Roberto Gheduzzi came close to breaking the Ultra course record with a time of 3:49:50, and Jennifer Mai secured the women’s Ultra victory in 5:18:17. The 30 km race also featured international competitors, with French athletes appearing among the top male and female finishers.
