About this race
The Everesting World Championship takes participants up a closed paved road on Mount Etna, beginning in Linguaglossa on the Sicilian slope of the volcano. This September hillclimb typically occurs in warm weather, with average temperatures ranging from 18°C to 31°C and minimal rainfall. The event is based on the Everesting concept: ascend a cumulative elevation equivalent to Mount Everest, or opt for a reduced version of the challenge.
Riders can compete individually or in teams, with these choices making the format approachable while maintaining a high standard for elite participants. Completing the full Everesting requires 8,848 metres of climbing within a 19-hour time limit; Half Everesting is 4,424 metres, Quarter Everesting is 2,212 metres, and Eighth Everesting is 1,106 metres. The closed road is a key logistical element, allowing the event to concentrate on the repeated ascent of Etna instead of traffic control.
