About this race
Gran Fondo San Gottardo is a Swiss road-cycling gran fondo in the Ticino Alps, with the main hub listed around Ambri and Airolo. It runs in late August and is designed for riders seeking a challenging mountain day over a flat sportive: the long route is approximately 113 to 115 km with about 3000 m of climbing, while shorter options are around 42 to 53 km depending on the edition.
The classic long course starts and finishes at Airolo train station and includes three major passes: Gotthard, Furka, and Nufenen. These climbs are all rated hors catégorie, and the route may cross Ticino, Uri, and Valais before returning to Airolo. Timing is managed through MySDAM, the race package includes essential services, and the organizers maintain a backup route for adverse weather or permit issues on the classic course.
