Marathon de Salemi 2026

Marathon de Salemi is a non-competitive wine run held in Salemi, a historic hilltop town in western Sicily, about an hour from Palermo. The event takes place in early October and is described as Sicily's first Wine Marathon, also as a themed half marathon. The focus is not on finishing time: runners attend for Sicilian wine, local food, music, costumes, and a relaxed weekend in the town. The route begins in Salemi's medieval center, proceeds through cobbled streets, and then ascends into the surrounding countryside. It passes vineyards, family-run wineries, local producers, and archaeological sites, with stops for regional wine, traditional food, and live music. The race takes inspiration from Europe's wine runs, and one theme encourages participants to dress as a favorite historical figure, fitting for a course that starts in an old Sicilian hill town and winds past local historical sites.
