The Menzel el Emir Night Trail takes runners onto Montagna Grande’s wooded paths after dark, starting from Misilmeri in Sicily’s Palermo province. This night trail race occurs around early June and offers a 10 km trail option and a more challenging 23 km Night Trail Medium route. The elevation gain is significant for the distances: the 10 km has approximately 950 m of climb, and the 23 km has approximately 1,700 m of climb.
The race is nicknamed “The Prince of Palermo” and is part of the UTMB Index for runners seeking trail credentials. The course follows natural paths, emphasizing mountain running, the darkness, and local terrain over speed. Previous editions have attracted a predominantly Italian field, with male and female participants accepted in junior, senior, promises, master, and allievi categories. ASD Marathon Misilmeri organizes the event, which is also listed in the Italian athletics calendar as a regional trail event.
