The QuadrOrtaThon Marathon is a four-race road series held in Gozzano, situated at the southern end of Lake Orta in Piedmont, Italy. Each event commences and concludes in Gozzano. Participants can opt for the complete four-marathon challenge across four distinct courses or register for individual races. The structure accommodates shorter distances, offering half-marathon and 10 km options. Cumulative distances include 84 km for four half-marathons, 40 km for four 10Ks, and approximately 172 km for the four ultramarathon version. The series takes place from Saturday to Tuesday, with adaptable entry allowing runners to start on any day within this period and complete their selected distance over four consecutive days.
The courses are located near Lake Orta, roughly 20 km west of the more recognized Lake Maggiore, providing a more tranquil setting than many Italian lake events. The vicinity of San Giulio island offers runners clear waters, forested shores, secluded coves, and vistas of the island’s Romanesque basilica, which now functions as a Benedictine abbey. Club Super Marathon Italy is the organizing body, and the name QuadrOrtaThon playfully references the Irish Quadrathon stage race. Its caution, “Watch out for your quadriceps,” aligns with the event’s nature: it involves repeated exertion for runners aiming to accumulate road miles with Gozzano serving as the consistent start-and-finish point.
