Ultra Trail Lago d’Orta begins in Omegna, Piedmont, Italy, directing runners into the mountains overlooking Lake Orta. This autumn trail-running series offers five distances: 140 km, 100 km, 60 km, 34 km, and 17 km. The 140 km route involves 7,330 m of climbing, and the 34 km race includes 2,200 m of elevation gain, indicating the event focuses on mountain running over flat terrain.
The courses traverse woods, technical paths, steep ascents, small villages, and offer views of the lake and the adjacent Alps. The series, which had a zero edition in 2010, now attracts over a thousand participants, with many coming from outside Italy. The race routes also pass through historic sites surrounding Lake Orta, such as Sacro Monte di Orta, contributing a local character to the event beyond its physical challenges.
