About this race
The Sports Mate Run Imperial Palace Marathon is a small Tokyo race held on the 5 km outer loop of the Imperial Palace, with the Clock Tower area serving as the check-in and race instruction point. The program features repeat laps instead of a single point-to-point course, offering options for 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, 20 km, a four-person 20 km relay, or a parent-child 5 km. All races commence in the morning, include timing for every participant, and proceed regardless of weather. The field is limited to 200 participants, giving it the feel of a compact local event rather than a large city marathon.
The Imperial Palace loop is a common Tokyo running path, easily accessible from Sakuradamon Station and straightforward to navigate as each lap covers the same 5 km circuit. The race welcomes a diverse group of participants: novices, those aiming for a specific time, families, relay teams, and runners aged junior-high and older in the 10 km to 20 km events. The parent-child race is designed for children aged three to elementary school with a guardian, while the shorter races have no time restrictions. Runners in longer distances must complete their final lap by the late-morning cutoff, and all finishers are awarded certificates on the day.
