About this race
Niseko, on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, will host the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships during a late-summer championship week. This event awards world titles to amateur road cyclists, featuring a 140 km Gran Fondo, an 80 km Medio Fondo, a time trial, and a team relay on the official program. A Discovery Cycling ride is also scheduled, meaning the week includes more than just riders competing for medals.
Races begin and end at Niseko Tokyu Grand Hirafu, with registration taking place at Tokyu Community Arena Kutchan. The road courses offer views of Mount Yotei, providing a distinct Niseko setting for the racing instead of a standard closed-road circuit. The championships hold historical significance as Niseko becomes the first Asian host for this event. The overall organization caters to traveling cyclists and their families, offering official hotels, bike storage, maintenance facilities, athlete meals, and activities for non-racers accompanying them.
