About this race
AVW 3Bossentrail is a small trail run in Wieringerwerf, in the Dutch Wieringermeer area, with a cap of 200 runners. It starts at 10:00 in separate start sections, so the field spreads out before entering the forest. The main trail distances are 14, 17, and 28 kilometers, and the event also offers a 14-kilometer Canitrail for runners with dogs, with a possible shortcut to 12 kilometers. There is no timing, so this is not built around racing the clock; the only fixed task is to finish before 3:00 PM.
The route uses unpaved paths wherever possible through the three forests of Wieringermeer, including Robbenoordbos and Dijkgatbos. Runners get walking paths along green fields, narrower singletracks, and boardwalk sections, with route updates planned each year to keep the course fresh. The event suits beginners as well as experienced trail runners because walking breaks are explicitly fine. The Canitrail starts after the regular trail runners, and dogs must stay on a leash for the full route.
