About this race
The Biesboschtocht comprises Dutch club tours centered on the Biesbosch, featuring cycling rides originating from Alblasserdam and Zevenbergen, alongside a walking tour in Dordrecht. The cycling events are non-competitive road tours, offering distances from a short 45 km to longer 150 or 160 km routes; the walking tour provides 5, 10, 15, 25, and 40 km options. Starts are staggered throughout the morning, with the longest distances departing first, and some cycling groups follow club leaders at predetermined average speeds.
The routes traverse various sections of the Biesbosch: the Sliedrechtse, Hollandse, Brabantse, Zuid-Hollandsche, or Dordtse areas, varying by organizer and distance. This region is Europe’s largest freshwater tidal zone, created after the Sint Elisabeth flood. Its cycling and walking paths wind through creeks, islands, willow flood forests, open meadows, tall-tree routes, and villages like Werkendam, Hank, Willemstad, and Raamsdonk. Tourclub de Waardrenner begins at VV de Alblas in Alblasserdam, offering participants complimentary coffee or tea prior to departure. While some shorter cycling routes are marked, longer rides and the Zevenbergen version utilize GPX files; the Dordrecht walk includes rest stops, first aid, AED support, clearly marked paths, and specific restrictions such as a prohibition on dogs in most Biesbosch sections.
