About this race
The Boerbos Cross begins and ends at the Hertenkamp on Bosrand in Rolde, Netherlands, immediately directing participants onto unpaved terrain within the Boerbos. This autumn cross-country event offers a short course of approximately 4.5 to 5 km and a longer course of about 8.6 to 9 km. Juniors typically complete one short lap, while seniors and masters can select either the short or long course. The race is included in the Geopark Hondsrug crosscircuit, and registration slots often fill rapidly once opened.
The route crosses forest paths, sandy sections, heathland, and minor inclines surrounding the historic sand drift in the Boerbos. The Ruige Veld and adjacent natural areas also form part of the landscape. The event attracts dedicated runners, local residents, juniors, seniors, masters, and spectators who gather along the course to offer encouragement. Local running groups from Grolloo, Gieten, and Gasselte are responsible for organizing the race. The practical arrangements are straightforward, featuring modest entry fees, changing facilities, showers, first aid services, and public transportation access from Assen and Gieten.
