About this race
The Tromp Boat Races draw hundreds of boats and over 1,000 rowers to Hilversum each October, establishing it as the largest rowing event in the Netherlands. Rowing Club Cornelis Tromp organizes the race, which features a 5,200-meter time-trial format. Crews begin the race sequentially rather than in a side-by-side sprint.
The course utilizes broad rowing water within a green environment, with distinct categories for junior, student, master, and senior crews. The event expanded to a two-day format in 2016 because of its growth, and approximately 150 Tromp members volunteer during the race weekend. Rowers from across the nation participate, and the atmosphere resembles a relaxed club gathering more than a formal championship, including participant gifts for anniversary editions and race photos available for personal use.
