About this race
The Gaasperplas Run is a June running event around the Gaasperplas lake in Amsterdam Zuidoost. It is organized by athletics club AV Feniks and uses paved routes through one of the greener parts of the city. The main choices are recreational 5 km and 10 km runs, with 1 km and 2 km youth races for children. It is built for mixed participation rather than only fast club runners: adults, children, beginners, and regular runners all have a distance that fits.
The course circles the Gaasperplas area and goes through the green space of Zuidoost, a route some runners find more varied and surprising than they expect from an Amsterdam city race. The event is part of Rondje Mokum, a seven-race Amsterdam circuit where runners who complete four events receive a shirt. Dozens of volunteers help run the day, and the organizers publish photos and results afterward, with older results kept in an archive. There is also a family-minded discount arrangement through Jeugdfonds Sport en Cultuur Amsterdam for children and parents on a small budget.
