About this race
The Grote Veldloop Vorden is a cross-country running event held in Het Grote Veld, a nature reserve near Vorden in Gelderland, Netherlands. Typically held in November, the event offers adult routes of approximately 7.3 km and 15.8 km, alongside a 2 km race for children. Volunteers from AV Hanzesport in Zutphen organize the race, with the start and finish located at Free-wheel sport and recreation on Vorden’s industrial estate.
The race takes its name from Het Grote Veld, and its course winds through the reserve instead of city streets. The routes traverse forest, heath, and cultivated land, including sections within areas managed by Natuurmonumenten. Participants include club runners, local residents, younger children, and individuals seeking a muddy autumn run over a road race. Instead of medals, finishers are given a “green memento,” a small, nature-focused keepsake intended to preserve the area’s condition.
