About this race
The Herfstbostocht Gravel Arnhem starts and finishes at RETO’s clubhouse near Rijnstate hospital, sending riders from Arnhem toward forest and heathland routes around the Veluwe area. This is the gravel portion of a combined MTB and gravel tour organized by RETO and Airborne MTB, with the gravel distance set at roughly 80 to 90 km depending on the event details. Riders navigate the route using GPX, making this a self-supported ride for those with a bike computer or phone, rather than a fully marked road race.
The route crosses paths through areas including the Veluwe, Veluwezoom, Kootwijk, Schaarsbergen, Renkum, and the southern part of the Ede route. The terrain near Arnhem is hilly, featuring short, demanding climbs, technical sections, singletrack, and smoother stretches for recovery. A food-and-drink stop is located around the 60 km mark, with free parking available at the start and finish, and a bike wash facility provided. Participation is limited to approximately 750 riders, which can lead to busy trails, particularly where MTB and gravel routes overlap on the same autumn riding day.
