Pieken+Dalen Festival

The Pieken+Dalen Festival is a trail running and walking event held at RCN het Grote Bos in Doorn, situated on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The event is organized in support of Stichting DiabetesPlus and incorporates the concept of “peaks and valleys,” reflecting both the undulating terrain and blood sugar fluctuations. Participants can select from 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, or marathon distances, all conducted on unpaved paths. Walkers have multiple distance choices tailored for various age groups. The event has a participant limit of 1,000, with on-site registration available if spots remain. The event begins at Hydeparklaan 24 in Doorn, with courses crossing the forested, hilly landscape of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Beyond the finish line, the festival grounds offer a Buddy Tent for connecting with a diabetes buddy, a session with diabetes researchers, a TechTent showcasing diabetes technology, musical performances by individuals with type 1 diabetes, food vendors, a children's play area, and a lottery. Friends, family, colleagues, and fellow athletes are encouraged to attend, ensuring the day caters to supporters as well as participants. Practical amenities include parking, a clothing drop-off service, first aid, on-course medical support, a secure cloakroom, and medals.
