In Zwolle, runners enter the historic center in the evening sun for the Scania Halve Marathon Zwolle. This Dutch road-running festival centers on a 21.1 km half marathon and a 6.4 km 4 English Mile race. The program also features a 1 km adapted-sports race, a business run, and a Heroes Run. Entries are capped at 10,500, with no on-site registration. Schoolchildren, recreational runners, experienced club athletes, and world-class runners participate in the same event.
The half marathon starts with a 2.6 km run-in to the city center, then transitions to three 6.2 km laps through Zwolle’s streets. Runners pass through the historic center with music along the course and spectators lining the city streets. The event embraces gezelligheid: Dutch descriptions call it “het gezelligste hardloopfestival van Nederland” and use the tag “#degezelligste.” Hundreds of volunteers assist in preparing and running the race weekend.
