About this race
The Seiterse GRAVEL tocht is one of several ATB, gravel, and road-bike rides taking place in Heeten, Overijssel, during the first weekend of Pony Week. This is a recreational cycling event, not a timed race, offering distinct options for mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and road bikes. Gravel cyclists select GPX-only routes of 45, 65, or 85 km, primarily on gravel, sand, and farm tracks. The ATB rides feature 35 and 60 km marked routes, alongside a 12.5 km parent-child option. Road cyclists can choose between 60 and 100 km GPX routes, which include sufficient climbing to challenge riders.
The routes are designed around Salland, frequently incorporating sections of the Mountainbike Network Salland. Organisers also secure temporary access from private landowners and estates. This can lead to unique, very local segments, such as riding through a cubicle stable, over silage bales, or across temporary small bridges. All routes include a refreshment stop near the halfway point. Participants receive a coffee or tea voucher upon registration and a token for apple pie or another drink post-ride. Music on the square, event photos, and the broader Pony Week context contribute to a village festival atmosphere rather than a standalone cycling event. The event originated with the Oranjevereniging Heeten during the summer fair, later transitioning to Pony Week, and evolving from an ATB field tour to include ATB, gravel, and road-bike rides.
