About this race
The Slangenburg Trailrun begins and ends at the Pokkershutte in IJzervoorde, near Doetinchem, taking place each autumn within the forests of the Slangenburg. Participants can select from 5, 12, or 21 km distances, suitable for a brief trail excursion or a half-marathon-length run on unpaved terrain. The event typically commences around noon, attracting approximately 300 runners, distinct from large urban races.
The course follows a genuine forest trail, incorporating muddy sections, puddles, and tree stumps. Jan in 't Touw is the organizer, and the day reflects a local, Achterhoek character: post-race, participants can use the showers and enjoy pea soup and rye bread. Images from the event are available via Achterhoekfoto.nl, with Karel Oerlemans providing the race photography.
